First lady Michelle Obama made a deeply personal entrance into the gun debate Wednesday by comparing herself to the honor student from her hometown shot to death a week after performing as a majorette in the presidential inaugural parade.

As part of a rare foray into a policy debate, Mrs. Obama highlighted the case of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who shot in the back January 29 while hanging out with friends at a park about a mile from the Obamas’ South Side home.

“Hadiya Pendleton was me and I was her,’” Mrs. Obama said. “But I got to grow up and go to Princeton and Harvard Law School and have a career and a family and the most blessed life I could ever imagine.” Mrs. Obama attended Pendleton’s funeral and said she was struck by how familiar the Pendleton family seemed to her own. Nine-year-old Robby Novak stopped by the White House this week to check in with his adult counterpart, Big President Barack Obama. Robby currently serves as ‘Kid President,’ a non-elected role in which he reaches out to millions of kids in his weekly YouTube show, which has become a viral sensation.The third grader was invited to the Oval Office to get the lay of the land and get a briefing from Mr Obama about the pressing matters of the day. After Robinson’s retirement from baseball, his wife, Rachel Robinson, pursued a career in academic nursing—she became an assistant professor at the Yale School of Nursing and director of nursing at the Connecticut Mental Health Center.She also served on the board of the Freedom National Bank until it closed in 1990. She and Jackie had three children: Jackie Robinson Jr. (born November 18, 1946), Sharon Robinson (born January 13, 1950), and David Robinson (born May 14, 1952). Robinson’s eldest son, Jackie Robinson Jr., had emotional trouble during his childhood and entered special education at an early age.He enrolled in the Army in search of a disciplined environment, served in the Vietnam War, and was wounded in action on November 19, 1965. After his discharge, he struggled with drug problems. Robinson Jr. eventually completed the treatment program at Daytop Village in Seymour, Connecticut, and became a counselor at the institution. On June 17, 1971, at the age of 24, he was killed in an automobile accident. The experience with his son’s drug addiction turned Robinson, Sr. into an avid anti-drug crusader toward the end of his life. (source: wikipedia )

There were so many precious moments from this years White House Easter Egg roll. Robbie Novak, Kid President was on hand for a few events and then this moment happened….5 year Donovan Frazier of Pennsylvania had a bit of a melt-down after he didn’t win the contest. Apparently his egg rolled over the line. President Obama took the time to console the young man…Donovan may not think so now, but he was the biggest winner! lol

White House 2013 Easter Egg Roll: First Lady & Malia Share a Touching Moment

The First Family hosted the White House annual Easter Egg roll on Monday. The event brings roughly 30,000 visitors yearly and is a great time for young kids. The First Family participates in a series of events, including the Easter Egg roll. There were a number of “awwwwww” moments, including this one – where Malia took the time to fix her mommy’s wind-blown bangs. It’s hard to believe that she’s a 14 year old high school freshman now!

President Obama along with First Lady Michelle and their two girls took a leisurely walk to church for mass from the White House dressed in their Easter Sunday best. The family wished “Happy Easter” to passers-by as they made their way through a park leading to St.John’s church, where they have attended services in the past. Secret Service wasn’t too far behind, but the visit to the church was a surprise to even the minister as it is said that he had to admonish church-goers serveral times during the service as they got up to take pictures of the First Family.
